In this online world, cyber security is vital and hence it becomes imperative to invest in it irrespective of the size of your business.

Here are the tips to help you improve your small business online security:

1. Ensure that all the computers in your office have proper authorization in place. Each and every employee has a username and password and is only granted an access that is relevant to his job role.
2. Grant Admin access only to a chosen few.
3. Adopt a strong password policy. For the sensitive accesses, let there be two-factor authentication that includes an OTP on mobile.
4. Avoid public wi-fi. Secure your wi-fi network with a password and install a suitable firewall.
5. Ensure that the mobiles used by employees for business are secured and have a proper screen lock or password in place.
6. Ensure that your online presence is secured with SSL certificate and a suitable firewall security.
7. Install basic antivirus software in all machines and make sure that they are protected against malware, trojans, viruses and other online threats.
8. Keep the operating system and other key application software updated.
9. Backup your data regularly, both internally as well as on a secured cloud network.
10. Get into the habit of encrypting all key information.
11. Make sure that all third-parties that are given access to your system for business purposes follow good cyber security.
12. Protect your personal identity information as well as the personal information of your clients.
13. Train your employees on cyber security and keep a watch on them. The articles such as ‘Avoiding phishing frauds’ are useful to them.
14. If it is feasible, invest in a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
15. Document your cyber security policy and fix accountability of each employee to maintain compliance to it.
16. Review your cyber security from time to time to stay up to date.
