To register a proprietorship business in India, some key points need to be kept in mind.

Here are some quick tips to help you manage it:

  1. As a proprietor, you need to have a license under the Shop Act in some states.
  2. You should register for the GST.
  3. You need to have a current account in the name of your company in any recognised bank.
  4. Depending on the type and size of the business you have, you need to register for MSME or SSI at UDYAM (website: udyamregistration.gov.in).
  5. In addition, you may have to register for a Trademark, FSSAI and IEC (Import-Export) code et cetera.
  6. Keep ready the other documents such as PAN card, Aadhaar card and proof of your business location that you wish to register.
