Registering a start-up business in India

Things have changed with time in India and the formalities required to run a business are becoming easier with each day gone.
For registering a start-up business that have solo owners, here are the tips:
- Choose your company’s name that is available with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (www.mca.gov.in) and is as per their rules. Visit ‘Company Services’ under ‘MCA services’
- Get formal letter issued by ROC regarding company’s name availability
- Write details of the proposed directors of your company
- Get DIN (Director Identification Number) for all your directors
- Get DSC (Digital Signature Certificate)
- Apply for the company registration online with Ministry of Corporate Affairs by creating an account at their website www.mca.gov.in
- Get the registration certificate of your start-up
- Register your start-up with Start-up India at www.startupindia.gov.in
- Get recognition from DPIIT by visiting dpiit.gov.in
- You need to have proof of concept such as website link/ video/ pitch et cetera whereas patent and trademark details are optional.
- There is no physical presence required. The whole registration process is online and the average duration of receiving registration is not more than 15 days as on date.
- Depending on the type and size of the business you have, you may have to register for MSME or SSI at UDYAM (website: udyamregistration.gov.in), a Trademark, FSSAI and IEC (Import-Export) code et cetera.
