Attending a Video interview

With the advancement of technology, video interviews are becoming common these days. Hence, proper preparation is a must before attending such interviews.
Here are the tips and advice to help you sail through a video interview:
- Choose a peaceful location, free of any disturbances and that has ample lighting.
- Get ready with your gadgets. Whether you’re attending using a mobile phone or a computer, you should check it thoroughly, test the software, mic, camera and speaker.
- Prefer using headphones that have a mic as well.
- Make sure that the software or app on which you would be attending your interview is not new to you. If you’ve not used it before, get familiar with it.
- Check your internet connection and ensure that you’ve a proper bandwidth for the required video quality.
- Keep your important documents such as your resume and other key certificates easily accessible and learn how to share them if such a need arises.
- Dress properly. Do not assume that since you’re attending from a remote place and it is just a video interview, whatever you wear would look nice. Be professional and wear what you would have, had it been an in-person interview.
- Have a backup in case there is a technical glitch during the interview. An alternative internet access and availability of a computer and a mobile or tablet pair would generally do.
- Treat the video interview as good as an in-person interview, and prepare for all the possible scenarios.
- Watch your body-language and your posture during the interview. Make a proper eye-contact into the camera.
- Last but not the least, be on time.
