Cracking a telephonic or an online interview

With the advancement of mobile communication and the internet, telephonic and online interviews are becoming common these days.

Here are the tips and advice to help you crack a telephonic or online interview round:

1. Fix the date and time carefully if you’ve a choice. Do not select a slot that is buffered between a busy and risky schedule.
2. Mark the date and time of the interview in your calendar schedule and put a reminder.
3. Prepare in advance and move to a quieter place before the start of the interview that has sufficient mobile network coverage. Make sure you’re ready with your computer (if it is an online interview) and have tested your mic, camera and speakers thoroughly. In the case of a telephonic interview, you should have the mobile in your hand and prefer sitting close to your laptop or computer.
4. Make sure that the place you have chosen for the interview has sufficient privacy and you’ve asked your near and dear ones not to disturb you during the time slot you’ve chosen for the interview.
5. You should be ready with a paper and pen to note down important points and also keep the copy of your resume handy (either in print or by opening the relevant file in your computer).
6. You should also keep all the relevant documents that you may be asked to submit at one place in your computer and be ready with your relevant email and other messenger and communication applications open.
7. Just before the time of the interview, switch off the call waiting feature in your mobile and once you’ve taken the interview call, shift your mobile to silent mode.
8. Do not pick up any other call five minutes before the scheduled time.
9. Listen and speak attentively and avoid distractions when the interview has begun.
10. Don’t be casual. Keep a professional approach during the whole interview and show your enthusiasm.
11. Don’t forget to highlight the things you are good at.
