The first job interview in anyone’s life is quite exciting as well as anxiety-causing.
Here are a few tips to plan in adavance and keep your confidence up:
- Find information about your prospective organization, try to find about your interviewers - what do they expect? their culture? their mission? products? About the job that is being offered?
- Practice basic questions: generally, they would ask about your strengths and weaknesses, about yourself, where do you want to see you 5 years from now, your skills for the role, how can you contribute to the organization, your ambition and questions like ‘why should we hire you?’
- You also need to prepare for the questions you want to ask, e.g. growth prospects, tell me about the role, the structure et cetera.
- Wear professional attire and be aware of your body language, i.e., maintain good posture and look confident.
- Prepare for some standard questions that can be found on the internet on the skills related to the job under-question, e.g. java skills.
- Maintain good eye contact.
- Rehearse in front of a mirror or with some friend or family member.
- Be honest and say ‘no’, if you have no idea about the answer to a question.
- Wish your interviewers verbally, and, if it is offered to you first, shake hands firmly.
- Be ready with all the relevant documents, such as the latest resume, achievements et cetera.
- Be punctual, in fact, it would be better to reach a little before time.
- Remember, the first impression is very important. Therefore, make a strong first impression.
