We all face criticism at times. In fact, a positive criticism is good for us as well. The point is it should not affect us mentally and we need to avoid the negative aspects of it.
Here are the tips and advice to help you deal with criticism:
- Focus on the content of the criticism, not the way it is conveyed. The tone of criticism is generally unpleasant to us.
- Assess the criticism you face and be honest in ascertaining whether it is a constructive criticism or destructive one.
- Don’t take the criticism at heart. Apply your mind and do not sit on it for long.
- Find ways to silence your critics with results they cannot ignore.
- Remember constructive criticism can help you grow. Therefore, don’t make excuses, rather be thankful to the person who is truthful in giving you genuine feedback and start working on improving yourself.
- No criticism determines your worth. Hence be compassionate in your approach and accept the fact that we are human and are not perfect.
- In the case of destructive criticism, learn to ignore the things, stay confident and simply move ahead. You may even avoid such people if it is disturbing you a lot.
- If you’re unable to control your mind, take slow and deep breaths, perform pranayama or go for a walk to better your mood.
- Draw a line that is acceptable to you and whenever that limit is crossed in a criticism, stop listening and do not get defensive.
- Stay calm. Avoid arguments and don’t be impulsive in your response.
